Today Peter is 30 days old.  His due date was tomorrow, July 4th.  I can't lie...we are getting a bit antsy to have him home with us but realize he has a bit more work to do before we would feel comfortable leaving his current home. Namely, we need to figure out how he is going to eat.  The good news is we are starting the trials in order to determine if he needs feeding tube surgery, and if so, where it should be placed (stomach or intestine).  Yesterday we moved up his ND feeding tube from his intestine to his stomach to see how he tolerated things, particularly if it induced significant reflux that might compromise his airway.  I'm happy to report that things are looking so far so good on that front.  Peter seems to be tolerating the change fine and managing to maintain his stats through it all.  We also have moved from continuous feeds to 3 hours on, 1 hour off in the hopes we can elicit some hunger cues that might coax out a few more sucks from him. Tomorrow we are likely to move to 2 hours on, 2 hours off.
He continues to gain about 1 ounce a day and is now 1 lb over his birth weight (7 lbs, 2 oz).  In general, I think we all feel he looks a lot stronger than he has in recent weeks and continue to remain hopeful that once we get a bit more data about his feeding situation, we can bring him home before too long. Thank you again to all of you who have been keeping up with our updates, sending along well wishes and continuing to keep us in your thoughts & prayers.  I can't tell you how overwhelmed we have been with all the love and support we have received over the last many weeks. Thank you all!!
